IoT Development in Action

WaterTDS is a startup focused on IoT solutions for monitoring and managing water quality and consumption. Initially designed for households, the project has expanded its reach to commercial enterprises.

Today, the product continues to evolve, prioritizing agility and user feedback, ensuring that it meets the growing needs of users around the world.

The Journey: From Concept to Market-Ready Product

In February 2023, Naren Bansal, the founder of a promising IoT startup, approached us with an innovative idea for a water management solution. They developed an affordable, real-time water monitoring device, designed to ensure safe drinking water while minimizing waste.

They needed a reliable technology partner who could help them transform their concept into a functional, market-ready product. With our proven expertise in IoT development, agile methodologies, and customer-centric design, we were the perfect fit to bring their vision to life.

Evolving the Product

In April 2023, Trident Software revealed a venture evolution package — a comprehensive roadmap to guide WaterTDS toward greater market success.

Since then, WaterTDS experienced a significant transformation, focusing on agility and responsiveness to user feedback. This strategic shift enabled the product to evolve gradually, with each version growing stronger and better suited to real-world needs.

Early-Stage Challenges and How We Addressed Them

With our support, WaterTDS was able to overcome several early-stage challenges:

  • Unclear Market Fit: Developed a promotional website to gather early feedback, validate the concept, and align the product with market needs.
  • Adaptability: Implemented an agile process with frequent releases, enabling rapid iterations and feature improvements based on user feedback.
  • Scalability: Ensuring that the product could be scaled to meet the needs of both households and commercial clients, including large enterprises.

These efforts culminated in the creation of a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) that was ready for commercial deployment.

Key Components of the Project

  1. TDS Bot:
    • Device that measures water quality (TDS — total dissolved solids), volume, and temperature.
    • Advanced Machine Learning algorithms to predict potential issues before they occur.
  2. Integration of TDS Bot with External Equipment:
    • Simple integration with water filtration systems (Water purifiers), plumbing fixtures, and water-consuming devices like coffee machines, coolers, and water dispensers.
    • Water quality control, consumption monitoring, and the identification of potential leaks or the maintenance needs across devices.
  3. Data Transmission to the Server:
    • AWS IoT Core receives readings from the TDS Bot, performs pre-processing, and sends the data to the BackOffice system.
    • The BackOffice system performs analysis, builds predictions, and manages the business logic, including notifications to users and service teams.
  4. Mobile Application:
    • Application for end-users (households) and commercial organizations.
    • Application for service engineers who maintain filtration and water supply systems.
  5. Web Application for Back-Office: Solution for companies distributing and servicing TDS Bot devices, Water purifiers, plumbing systems, coffee machines, coolers, and dispensers.
    • Integration with distributors, dealers, service teams, and contractors.
    • Built-in CRM elements for user support and interaction management.
  6. Corporate Website:
    • Sale of equipment and service offerings.
    • Ability to place orders and make payments.
    • Availability of region-specific information.
    • Interactive infographics and real-time statistics.

The Results and Market Expansion

By June 2024, WaterTDS was ready for the production phase, which involved larger-scale testing with commercial clients. Our team focused on ensuring the product could scale effectively and manage multiple devices. Also, we integrated additional modules, such as maintenance requests and cartridge replacement.

At this stage, WaterTDS caught the attention of major brands, including Google Campus in São Paulo, which became an early large-scale deployment. Furthermore, partnerships were forged with brands like Liquos, Starbucks, and McDonald’s, highlighting the growing global demand for the product.
